    Reliable BANG for your buck!

    Reliable BANG for your buck!
First, Amazon is mixing reviews for the 573g model and the 574g. Main difference is the 574g has the 6th gen i5 processor opposed to the 5th gen and 4gb vram instead of the 2gb on the 573g. It's worth getting the 574g in the beautiful cotton white coloring which is what I'm reviewing.I'll keep this simple and to the point with a pros and cons list. I'll accompany that with a list of games I've installed and played.PROS:4gb Nvidia 940m vram1080p screen6th gen i5 "skylake" processor1 terabyte hard driveNice texture to plastic and contrast of black/whiteUnbeatable priceCONS:Medicore speakersKeyboard feels shifted to the leftTouchpad isn't precise needs left & right mouse buttonsBloatwareSlow hard driveSome games I've installed...Gears of War 4CupheadRainbow Six SiegeMinecraftGotham City ImpostersLeft 4 Dead 2Portal 2Dead Rising 2: Off the RecordSniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 1 & 2Batman: Arkham AsylumDead Space 2Sonic GenerationsSonic Lost WorldSonic Racing 1 & 2BorderlandsJust Cause 2Bioshock 2Battlefield: Bad Company 2Urban Trial FreestyleWorms ReloadedMafia 2I know that some of these games aren't the newest or most demanding, but they all run very nicely. You'll definitely want to tweak the graphical settings to your liking. All in all, this laptop is a spectacular value. I used to be skeptical of Acer products in general, but I stand by this machine. They obviously had to cut a few corners to make this laptop have such high end specs. It doesn't feel premium but it does have a unique look and nice texture to the body. I'm overall very impressed with how well they pulled it off and highly recommend it.*2018 UPDATE*I purchased this laptop a year and a half ago and it's still going as strong as the day I bought it. I paid less than $500 for the Aspire 574g, so don't let anyone price gouge you on it.

UPDAT 3 WEEKS LATER: I'VE GOT A BOSE MINI SOUNDLINK FIRST GEN HOOKED UP TO IT AND IT CAN'T MAINTAIN A CONNECTION BUT THE LINK WORKS FINE WITH ALL OTHER DEVICES, SO THE BLUE TOOTH ON THIS MAY BE JUNK. BE WARNED OR IT'S THE SPEAKER NOT SURE WHICH IT IS FOR SURE. I FINALLY GAVE UP AND HARD WIRED THE SPEAKER TO IT. SO MUCH FOR BLUE TOOTH.
Ok I hope I'm not being premature in writing this. I wanted to use it for a while before I did the actual review. I didn't reinstall mine like many have done to get rid of all the advertising pop ups. So keep in mind they do annoy you at times but not overwhelmingly bad. I've only had it freeze once since I got it two weeks ago and I use it about eight hours a day so I'm very impressed with that. It was booting out of a Star Craft game that it froze when I chose to totally exit and log out of star craft. My old comp froze and over heated almost daily. This plays Star Craft beautifully and no lag or drops. I have streamed with it on You Tube HD videos without the constant stuttering of my old comp and it handles them and all I throw at it very well. I did notice a slight slow down in overall capabilities while I did my Diablo or World of Warcraft DL. But had no problem while it did my Star Craft DL so go figure. Overall it is working better than I could have dreamed at a good price. I have it paired with a Bose blue tooth speaker and HD You Tube videos and music are amazing and sound great. I had to move my blue tooth speaker to the left side of the table though it for some reason couldn't maintain a connection on the right side and the bose instructions said in trouble shooting that is might be too close to something transmitter of the comp, anyway so far since I put it left to my comp it hasn't lost a signal once. White is a bit hard to keep clean. Micro fiber towel and a bottle of windex will become you companion with this white honeycomb textured plating. Oh, when playing Star Craft it bellows heat out of the left vent, super hot heat, but the keyboard and palm area remain cool, so it seems to cool well, hope that lasts. Otherwise seems like the fan never turns on unless I'm gaming. This also it says has super fast wifi capabilities and seems to download from Blizzard in about a third the time my old comp took to download. So it seems really fast to me. Boots up fairly quick in under two minutes to password screen. I never shut it down. I just let it go to sleep and that's working out nicely for me. Just double tap the space bar and then enter my password and she's ready to go. My old comp couldn't handle sleep mode and would never wake from sleep mode. I'm just saying this comp seems to do everything it's supposed to. Oh except I tried Cortana voice commands and it started to act all funky and not work right and stuff would take forever to open and would pop up with stuff five minutes after I asked the question. Voice was the only thing that seemed to wreck this thing, otherwise after I turned her on and off and avoided the voice function, I've never had those weird problems again. Typing cortana questions works fine. But we all know windows ten isn't all it's cracked up to be. LoL enjoy this is a great comp for the money. Don't forget to update you Nvidea when you get it, it should prompt you in a few days if you forget to update otherwise, so no big concerns. Oh just remembered the diablo intro video and world of warcraft videos lagged and screen froze but voice stayed in syc but the star craft intro video played flawlessly. So make of that what you tech savvys will. I'm not smart enough to say much more than it's way better than my old hp ever was.

It's a great laptop for the price. I ordered the 15.6 inch, i5 core version, and it is worth the price. A couple of this to know going in though. First it would be best to do a fresh install of Windows 10. It gets rid of a lot of the pre-installed software. Especially McAfee Security suite. I mean its great to have a anti-virus and firewall installed, but there are better options. Also if you try to uninstall it it will ruin the OS. I uninstalled it and had to do a system restore right away to get to Windows 10 to startup again. So, follow the instructions online to install a clean copy of Windows from a USB drive. The product key for Windows is hard coded into the laptop's motherboard so there is no need for a new key. If that is too much work you can use simple small programs like PC Decrapifier, or PC Slimmer that other reviews for this laptop have recommended to get rid of them quickly, and easily. Now, also be aware that Windows 10 is vary open when it comes to your privacy. It loves to send data back to Microsoft to tailor Cortana and the live tiles to what you do online and off. So if you want limit the amount of data that Windows 10 sends out download Spybot Antibeacon to help with that. Now on to hardware. The display is nice bright, sharp, and clean. Videos look great and wonderful, although it dose not come with any kind of optical drive. So unfortunately you won't be watching your Blu-ray movies right away. you will need to purchase a separate drive either one that you can install into the laptop or a external drive. It does have an expansion slot for a drive, but a lot of people are using it to install a second SSD drive to speed up performance, which a great idea. Installing a SSD drive as well as expanding the memory to 16 GB make the this laptop really fly. So go external unless you don't want to have an external drive laying around. The mouse touch pad is okay. I would recommend a wireless mouse if you can use one. the pad can be a little to sensitive and make the cursor fly across the screen. Plus it dose not always register your clicks on the pad. Sound is gonna be hit or miss, and here's why. Now the laptop has good speakers, but they made a strange choice of putting the speakers in the bottom of the laptop instead of on top like most laptops. Now that's probably a design choice to fit everything into it, but it dose make the sound quality suffer. So either use some good headphones, or use some nice blue tooth speakers. The keyboard feels good to me. Nice short clickey keys and its a almost a full keyboard with only a few keys needing to use the Function key to get to work. Some people have said that they feel a little cheap, but like I said they feel great to me. Games run pretty well on this you have a 4 GB Nvidia GForce 940m video card which can handle a good number or game running at medium to high settings. I have read that it can run Skyrim on medium setting pretty well. The video card also has the ability to switch to the on board intel video output when your not playing games. This is great because it saves battery power when your just doing normal things like surfing the net or watching videos. Speaking of the battery its an okay battery life for the price. under normal use you will get 3 to 4 hours of battery life on a full charge. Playing games or doing more processor heavy things like video editing or capturing, it drops to 1 to 1.5 hours of battery life with a full charge. The laptop is a comfortable weight its not to heavy nor to light, and it dose not generate to much heat when in use. So for those of you who like to work with a laptop on your lap well, this is a nice comfy laptop that won't get to annoying or hot on your legs. Overall this is a great laptop play games and work with for what your paying. Some of the recommendations other reviewers are saying to do to get full advantage of the laptop are great suggestions to do. I have done a lot of them and its made this laptop really worth the money.
