- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 20155 stars based on price. I got it when it was $129.99 and can't beat it for that price.
1st, when windows 10 updates you lose a TON of space, go to c: properties, cleanup, advanced, and remove OS old versions, and you are back to 14GB free about 50%, other wise it was about 6GB free.
I used this to replace an old Mac Mini for KODI (XBMC) usage, and seems great so far. Mine was new, unopened all seals intact. I have a wired connection so cannot comment on WiFi performance. It is very small and light, literally my only complaint so far would be the power light is too bright, and annoying in a home theater setup, nothing a tab of electrical tape can't handle. This also has Bluetooth, which is nice, if that was listed in the specs online, I missed it. I haven't used the keyboard or mouse, I have a wireless mouse and micro keyboard I use from across the room similar to this http://www.amazon.com/Rii-i8-Wireless-Rechargable-Raspberry/dp/B00Z81U3YY/ref=dp_ob_title_ce . Performance wise it is weak, but for a complete tiny fully licensed Windows 10 desktop, I am more than pleased. Just run updates manually several times over 2 days, then do a disc cleanup and get all your space back.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2015What I like about this is the concept to stack more devices in the future. The document that comes with it mentions up to 3 stack-able with their future add-on device.
I have totally loose fate with acer after this purchase. Why I regret so much and suggest you never to buy it.
The system is preload with mainly Microsoft Office 2013 not activated, Cyberlink Power DVD 12, Mcafee Security 30 Days Trial and some small acer application.
There is a 500MB hidden recovery partition. That is for acer support care application to roll back the OS to factory setting.
You cant export it to dvd or usb thumb drive.
Performance wise when I play the movie avenger 1 on Windows Media Player, it run between 39-60% cpu load
Overall system cpu load is between 42-63%. while movie is still running, no lag.
The system is not warm to touch after using it for few hours. Could be due to the plastic material used or it is just so cooling.
From my power meter reading it is 4.5Watt on idling and 7.2Watt while the movie is running.
Just to let you know that other Mini PC should fare the same since it is intel processor efficiency and not acer magic.
About the bad
I wish I could back up the whole emmc but acronis home 2016 just wont detect it. Its a acronis issue but still a minus point for emmc storage.
First, acer web site has no product specification or information about this since their product launch.
I took the risk to buy it. They are just plain lazy to provide information. They also dont provide user manual for this machine spec.
Upon tear open this unit and feel very disappointed. It’s so spacious that I could squeeze 20 to 30 thumb drives into it ...if I try to.
Given that empty space, there is no m2 or sata port available to expand your storage need or swap to your preferred hard disk.
Yes, you hear me. No m2 or sata port. What are those empty spaces for? I could guess the internal are prototype design or just cutting corners....Further update, on fresh boot up of this device, you get 16GB of free space. Should you swap to 8GB of ram with default pagefile plus windows hibernate boom... you will run out of space or maybe just 1 GB left.
That could be why Acer restrict a 2 x 8GB physical memory design. The windows pagefile and hibernate setting would just blow away all free space.
It comes with a 2GB ram not soldered on. So you can remove this ram and swap with a 8GB DD3L module instead.
Another cut corner approach. Intel NUC normally provides 2 slots.
Lastly, 32GB of soldered on OS space are you kidding me? How on earth am I going to survive on Windows 10 with future windows update or download my stuff going forward? Yeah they provide 3 x USB port for external hard disk. Woohoo...~~
To end this....its a huge white elepant that could do more but Acer just kill it. Taller and bigger than other NUC but just not for me.
May they want you to expand upward with their future add-on device. To me...I will kiss good bye to them.
I give it the lowest rating. Acer...buy you once shame on me buy you twice shame on me. No more Acer.
Check out some photo I have took. Acer better explain why did they sell me a product with so much empty space in this device. It could have been put into better use with expansion slot.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2015Let me start off by saying that i wasnt expecting much from a $130 Mini PC. The 3 star rating is due to the fact that it came in an opened box. The tape that says "Check contents if seal is broken" was sliced open and the top of the box had been retaped. The contents all look fine but if Amazon is selling this as new, then it shouldnt come in an opened box. I know of one other guy from the Kodi forums that this happened to as well.
It connected to my TV fine via the HDMI connection. I streamed a 1080P video from my NAS over my wireless N network and it handled it well. Watched a complete 1080P movie last night with it and twice during the movie it paused briefly while buffering but ill attribute that to the wireless N speeds.
Its a little sluggish opening menus and programs but thats to be expected from a machine like this. Boot time to login window is about 20 seconds but with a few different things starting and some of the Acer bloatware, it takes another 20 seconds to the desktop and another 30-45 seconds for the thing to settle down. Not an issue for me as im leaving it on and letting it go to sleep when not in use. Wakes up quick and is ready to go with a tap on the keyboard.
The memory is easily replaced and i may just do that sometime soon. From some of the youtube videos i checked, it appeared that the orange top came off and there was a sata cable inside to attach an SSD or 2.5" HD to. Well this one doesnt have the little slide latch shown in the videos i looked at and im hesitant on opening it up until i have used it a while, as doing so will probably void the warranty.
It works well for Kodi and Netflix but dont think about using it for Gaming or anything else to resource intensive.
Ill be keeping it if it continues to work OK and will most likely upgrade the memory.
Edit 12/4/15: Started having lockup issues resuming from Sleep and also not going to sleep. I ordered 4GB of memory but not going to bother putting it in, that coupled with someones recent comment about no Sata support after breaking off the orange top, its all going back. Jumped on another deal for an Intel NUC NUC5PPYH with 4GB of memory for $155. Grabbed one of the Samsung 850 EVO SSD on sale for $72 and will have to put my own OS on, but ill end up with a much better system than this. Total cost without OS is $227.00.
