    Fantastic Keyboard by Alienware!
I bought this keyboard along with the Alienware Mouse (AW958) and 25" G-SYNC monitor (both of which I will also leave a separate review). So far, I'm extremely satisfied with this keyboard and will break down the key parts 1. Construction This is a brown switch mechanical keyboard that Alienware succeeded in providing a premium look and feel. Though the keyboard's casing may appear to be metal, it is in fact plastic. Still, despite the plastic construction, the keyboard is fairly weighty and solidly built. There's no noticeable flex when pressing down on the keys. The keyboard has a braided USB cable that is definitely built to last. 2. Design The keyboard comes with a gunmetal matte finish that not only looks sharp, but also does a good job at not picking up fingerprints. The keyboard comes with retractable feet with two different height settings, giving you a total of three height options. The Alienware logo towards the bottom is not too intrusive, but definitely stands out, showing anyone who can't already guess that this is an Alienware product. See the photos to see different angles of the keyboard - when it comes to the overall design, I personally think Alienware absolutely killed it on this one. 3. Functionality The keyboard is very responsive and is great for gaming, as well as for general use. In addition to the backlighting, which I will cover later, this Keyboard has a few neat functions built in. The keyboard has 5 macro keys on the left side, with a 6th button on top that toggles between 3 macro sets, adding up to a total of 15 macro keys. While there are no dedicated media buttons, you can still access the standard Play, Stop, Rewind, and Fast Forward by using the Function Key. There is a button to mute (and unmute) audio with a volume rocker next to it, which is a very nice touch. The Alien Head button can be configured to turn off all lighting effects or to toggle "Game Mode", which you can customize in functionality to lock different keys (such as the Win-Key). Other function keys include the ability to adjust the brightness of the keys and under glow (controlled separately), change between 3 saved lighting profiles, and direct access to the Alienware Control Center. 4. Lighting The Alienware (AW958) Keyboard does come with 16.8 Million color RGB backlighting; however, it's worth noting that the color for keys cannot be individually set. Instead, there are groups of keys that can have their color set (WASD, Arrows, Macros, Numpad, etc.) or by using 5 different lighting zones. The ambient (under and side glow) can also be set to your liking. Personally, the available lighting groups are perfect enough to customize the keyboard to my liking. If you prefer a more dynamic lighting setup, there are also 10 preset animated lighting effects. This includes a rainbow effect, a firework effect, and an x-ray effect (which sort of reminds me of lightning). 5. Price Price is always a huge factor when making any purchase. This keyboard was purchased for around $110. At this price, there are many other options out there that offer similar and even more functionality at a much cheaper cost. Being able to control the lighting of each individual key would have been a nice feature to help justify the price; however, I would have to say that overall, even though this keyboard is a little pricey, if you like the Alienware brand and styling enough, this keyboard definitely won't disappoint and it certainly looks, functions, and feels like a premium product. A final note on this keyboard is that Dell (Alienware) does offer a separate palm rest that magnetically attaches to this keyboard, which I find to be a little more comfortable. Check out my review on the palm rest for more information.

I bought the lower priced version of this keyboard after looking for a good mechanical keyboard for work that wasn't too loud, but still had some tactile feel to the keys. After a few months with that one at work, I decided to get the RGB model that has the keys themselves lit and I couldn't be happier. I was using a buckling spring keyboard at home, but since I was so used to the one I have at work, I had to get this one. They keys are "clicky" but not too loud, so I don't disturb my co-workers. The durability is great so far and I've had zero issues using it. It's a pleasure to type on and my typing speed has only increased steadily over the few months that I've had it. I love the macro keys and the fact that this version has 3 sets that can be toggled makes it even better for storing passwords and other login info that I have to use on a daily basis. I'm still messing with the color effects that this one has to offer, but the feel of the board is most important to me.

If you're looking for a good mechanical keyboard that has great feel and you don't really need the lighted keys etc, go with the $40 version. It's just as good. If you need a good gaming keyboard that has all the bells and whistles (minus USB passthrough) this one fits the bill. Even better that I got this one for less than $90! I read the reviews about this and a lot of customers are upset about the lack of a wrist rest, but I don't feel that's a deal breaker by any means, as I'm pretty sure you can buy one for this keyboard. Great built quality, quality keys, nice weight to it. Couldn't be happier.

an overall great keyboard for gaming and typing, they are brown switches or feel like brown switches since i believe they are not true brown switches. has many color effect and can be change with the function switch on the keyboard also the programmable switches can be up to 15 with 5 on each mode. material seems durable on front just the plastic on the back is not the best also no cable management on the back for the price you expect better. Buy only if you have an Alienware computer or your a fan of Alienware they are better more functions and features for less money in the market. The problem with this is the software you have to use a proprietary program apart from the alien fx one that comes on your Alienware pre installed. It is not the best GUI or simple to change your light effects and match them with your computer and program can glitch and not work sometimes. but keyboard itself its solid nice keyboard.

I gave my son my original Alienware keyboard and mouse when I got this and the keyboard and the mouse. I went to Micro Center and typed on all of the keyboards, including $200 ones. This one had my favorite feel, sound and look.

I will mention this is highly subjective and each person may be different. So if possible go to a store that sells a bunch of different types first and see what you like best.

But if you own an Alienware laptop or computer, come on, you aren't buying anything else, I know. ;-)
You will like the customizations and feel right at home with your other Alienware items.

Great looking keyboard. Overall for the price I think it's good value. The keyboard feels solid and has got a good weight. Even though it's mostly plastic, it feels very durable and well built. I enjoy the lighting zones and options. Some don't like the fact that you can't change individual keys but I don't mind the zones at all, it makes it simpler and easier to configure. The multiple height adjustments and the feel of the keys are also pros! Only con is the software. It's not bad but I feel they could have made the UI a bit more user friendly. They should have also streamlined it with their software for their other products, I mean, why have multiple?!

Feels sturdy and the click is smooth but the keyboard is a bit heavy unless the performance is very good and keys are very responsive and feels good while typing. Worth the money.

I purchased this keyboard back in 2020 and now, after 3 years of heavy using, its my best ever keyboard, it still works like the first time I plugged it in the first day, I always check if they will have more so I can buy one more and keep it as a backup. I really love it, the feeling, the sound, the keys while I'm gaming is awesome. The durability of this thing is astonishing (especially because I'm a gamer and I get mad some times and hit the keyboard)
