The older style hung down to far in the window due to the top mount on the camera and and long neck on the mount... This mounting system tucks the camera up into the top of the windshield and allows it stay out of the way much better.. I really like the accident avoidance warning beep when other cars are to close, it has already warned me a few times as drives cut in on the highway... This unit has usual great quality that you expect from Garmin, that quality is built into the unit by the manufacturer and makes this worth the extra dough over the less expensive alternatives. I trusted that when I ordered this model for the first time and was pleased to see that Garmin has again done a great quality job here. The only issue that keeps it from being a 5 is the short power cord. Why Garmin includes only a 6ft power cord is beyond my understanding. for this and the other Garmin models I have purchased I always need to buy a separate longer cable to be able to keep it from running straight down the window. Be sure to always get a Garmin brand cable as the Garmin DashCam (and Navi) units do not play well with generic charges and you really do want the 90 degree turn on the plugin to the Garmin end. This is not the end of your purchase. If you do not want a cord hanging down in front of you the cord that comes with it is not long enough to re-route. I tried a 15ft "MINI" USB extension with their cord, I a 15ft USB "A" to USB "MINI" cord with a USB 12V adapter and I tried plugging that cord into my radio's USB. Every one of these options made the camera go into USB to computer mode, not the automatic camera mode when powered on. I had to buy the 12ft power cord from Garmin so it had their cord end to end. Also, if your 12V power port is not switched with the ignition you have to plug and unplug your power manually. Info: Ford power ports are not switched. I purchased a remote mounted power port and hooked it to the switched side of the fuse box.

Garmin' Dash Cam 35 is a little gem. It's viewing screen is a perfect size. It's super easy to use. I recommend getting a hardwire kit for a clean power cord installation look so you don't have a hanging cord. If I didn't already have a Garmin 2797LMT gps I would've gotten Garmin's Nuvicam gps with a built in dash cam.

This is my second dashcam and so far this blows my older one away. Granted it wasn't a very good one, but now I know not to skimp when purchasing one of these. Garmin products are built extremely well and I've always trusted them. Lots of useful features on this one, such as the ability to take pics or save videos with the touch of a button and the forward collision warning. The forward collision warning is obviously not a replacement for your eyes on the road but it does help, even though it doesn't always pick up the vehicle ahead of you, I do like the feature. This dashcam also has GPS built-in so it'll pinpoint the exact location you're at. The red light camera feature is also a nice add-on. It has a great battery life as well. Even though I always have mine plugged in, if an accident occurs, I can dismount the camera and continue to film while outside of the vehicle and take snapshots of damage and etc. Overall an excellent unit and well worth the price.Read full review

1. USB cable is 1.5m, i.e. it’s impossible to hide it behind windshield. 2. Settings: radar detection works only in USA/Australia (Cyclops system), and it’s kind of subscription service. 3. Settings: records get split into 1-minute intervals, and it cannot be adjusted in settings. So you get thousands of files. I would like to have 5 minutes instead, but it’s not possible with this cam. Otherwise this dashcam is small enough, recording quality is good, starts on ignition automatically. If I could hide the cable and cigarette adapter weren’t so big, I would completely forget about this dashcam (like it should be in perfect world). So I’ve ordered 3m mini-USB type-B cornered cable, mini cigarette double charger and cornered USB adapter that will allow to hide cable even more. I hope it works.
