How to use the Surround setting based on the input.
Awesome Sound Quality. Amazing Receiver. This receiver is complicated but it is because of all the features it has. It took me awhile to understand how the colored buttons worked. They were for the surround modes and they keep the setting based on your input mode. I hooked a computer to it and I learned that you need to select what surround signal to output to the receiver and the receiver automatically detects it based on you previous choices on what to do with that signal. Ex. 5.1 output to receiver then receiver set at Multi -In + DDS (Dolby Surround) to use all the speakers. Marantz is a high end Receiver. Very low sound distortion. (The buzz or hum you normally hear from a speaker at idle) SR7012 provides 125 watts for up to 9 speakers. Speakers can be configured / positioned in many different ways. Comes with a lot of features, such as Blue-tooth, Wi-Fi, 4K pass through HDMI. Great AVR for both movies and 2 channel music.
Setting the AVR was easy with the on screen setup. Save the celebration until you have the Audyssey app. You'll have much more control of the sound, the amazing sound coming from this receiver. Movies are out of this world, and I don't even have Atmos speakers yet. We are a movie family, and have quite a collection. We have always preferred DTS sound for movies and the DTS neural X is ridiculously good. Surround is awesome! No more wishing you could hear what the actors are saying. Every line is crystal clear and the visceral enjoyment coming from the sound effects is movie studio worthy. We like a lot of action adventure movies as well as fantasy. Any thing from Transformers to Pirates of the Caribbean to Star Wars to Indian Jones to Harry Potter. It is amazing to watch them all again with movie studio quality sound, at home! Movie sounds coming from the Oppo 103D, pushed by the Emotiva XPA3 through B&W 804s, orchestrated by the sr7012 is a real treat, but 2 channel music listening is equally as satisfying. Listening to my CD collection is like hearing for the first time. Make no mistake, the sr7012 will expose poorly mixed recordings but Noah Jones' first effort Come Away With Me is outstanding! The few SACD's I own are just incredible. To use the words of my 16 year old son, "it's just crisp" while listening to W.A. Mozart Violin Concertos Nos 3&4 on SACD with 2 channel listening. It makes me sad that I have a job or responsibilities that take me away from listening, but alas this stuff won't pay for itself. I haven't tried streaming yet but will get to that after I give the rest of my music collection a go. I thought I had a wide sound stage before but with the sr7012 I'm in the audience, at the concert. I could go on and on with how happy I am with this purchase but I will cut it short by saying if you love home theater and love 2 channel music listening, do yourself a favor and get this box. Amazing sound
I hooked up an old SR 8002 marantz (on Pure) to power two atmos speakers in the rear giving me an 11.2 speaker set up. the sound is beyond amazing... far better than in the movie theater. There, you're enveloped in sound but it's just loud. With this amp, you can hear delicate sound staging for an amazing experience. Results might differ with another speaker set up but I couldn't be happier. Atmos is fabulous. The only thing to note is that volume levels 1-50 are way too soft to hear. Normal play volume is 65, which, I think, is a design flaw but that's just a nit--and the way Marantz has always done it.This is a terrific amp. (The title says 9.2, but the amp processes 11.2-- 11+2 preamps but has only 9+2 power amps. So, you need to add an external amp to power 2 additional speakers. The connection is super simple: preamp out to preamp in. Works like a charm.)Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Excellent unit, runs a little hot.
This is an excellent receiver. It is everything that I expected it to be. I love that it has bluetooth. I do prefer to not use the two apps (one runs all streaming services, and the other is supposed to be a remote control) I couldn't get the latter to work. The HEOS app runs streaming music services. I happen to use amazon music. I have made many playlists. Using the HEOS app I am unable to use my playlists, but I am when I use the Amazon music app. Just thought I'd mention it. I would also like to state that this item runs very hot. Very, very hot. It definitely cannot be used in tight spaces without ventilation. My rack has 2" of clearance. I have ordered AC Infinity fan unit, and I think it will work out fine. I have owned some very nice processors and receivers in my life, and this is one of my favorite. Very nice AVR especially given the discounted price being a model year old. Sound is excellent for everything except the phono input which I would say is just "good", not excellent.
