Let me start by stating I did not need nor want another laptop at this time. I am perfectly happy using my Linux Desktop. I hate Windows and stopped using Windows after trying Linux 10 years ago and never looked back . . . but I need to take a proctored exam and the software is only supported by Windows and Mac.
That being said I have to say I am 100% satisfied with this laptop (even running Windows). The outside is no frills unlike the giant MSI laptop I had before with the aluminum case. This case is pretty basic but to be honest I feel it might be more durrable, less prone to scratching or denting.
I like where the power outlet is, very back of the left side which is out of the way. I also like how there is one high speed USB port on the right where I plug in my mouse dongle, and one high speed USB port and one standrard USB port on the left where I prefer to plug in any removable drives.
The laptop opens nice and smooth, and the keyboard is the best I have seen or used on a laptop, love the accented keys even with the backlighting off. Very mild backlighting, perfect for viewing without being distracting like other backlit keyboards. Power button was hard to find at first but is in a perfect place, in fact incorporating a narrow number pad was ingenius. I could not have asked for a better design and have to give MSI standing Kudos.
I have always been a fan of MSI MB's (Mother Boards / Main Boards) but after using Linux have also have become a fanboy of AMD CPU's & GPU's, especially integrated APU chips such as the Ryzen-5. I have always ran into one issue or another using Intel and NVidia chipsets while running Linix and all of that stopped after upgrading my desktop to a Ryzen-5 system.
I am most excited about this laptop so I could have the best of both my worlds (MSI+AMD). And in case you are wondering why the AMD is so important if I am running Widows and not Linux one might ask himself?
It's because as soon as I am done with this proctored exam I am going to reformate the drive and install Linux (Manjaro Linux with KDE Desktop).
