Jack of all trades A/V receiver.

This Onkyo replaced an outdated Sony A/V receiver. I like several of the features on this one. I don't use the 7.2 (yet). I have it setup as a 5.1 system. I've also replaced my surround and main speakers to Polk. It has great sound quality. However I feel the it's lacking power. My old Sony was 90 watts/ch. And it seemed to be louder than this unit. I'm still trying to figure out some of its sound control settings. I do use the Onkyo Play-Fi app to play I heart radio through the receiver. I still haven't used the Bluetooth yet. It's a large, heavy unit (22pounds), so make sure you have room on your shelf or rack for it. It also runs very warm to hot and needs good air circulation.

Lots of great features for the price, but shop and compare first.

Finally can listen to all of my audio sources through one receiver! Much lighter than expected (replaced a heavier and much older Onkyo). Assuming the weight-loss is all in the amp, the sound quality doesn't seem as punchy as my old amp. Only real disappointment is the Zone 2 function. Need to use remote and main unit to setup (too many hoops to jump through), plus sound power level is low. Using Zone 2 for patio speakers and have to turn volume 3/4 to max for normal listening. Also doesn't have a power outlet like my old receiver did.

  • Strong value

Pretty high quality but could use a bit nicer finish and the knob is difficult to turn -- not that you'd ever use it. The remote is functional but poorly designed with no lighting and some extremely small buttons. Power is low on this unit, but it supports bi-amp for two channels. No bridging, sadly. Rear binding posts are too close together and vertically arrayed rather than horizontally, so most people will need to use unequal lead lengths for connections. The binding posts are probably the cheapest feeling thing about this unit -- just not very high quality. Banana plugs make hookup easier. Dolby decode is accurate and quick to lock optical signals.

  • Excellent Sound & Features for Under $300

Very easy to use Setup menu and options. Could use a little more help text for each option but is good as is. Sound is as good as the speakers you connect to it. I initially connected a $12k pair of Zu Audio speakers and was SHOCKED at how awesome this receiver sounds without even breaking in. Then I switched to my NHT Home Theater speakers and was very satisfied. Point is that if you have high-end speakers, then you will get a very articulate and wide soundstage, deep and responsive bass, natural sounding female vocals, very expressive. A couple of improvements to make this an AWESOME received, and not just for under $300: 1) There are 2 subwoofer outputs, but they both have the same stereo signal which has both the left and right channels in each sub output. For owners with dual subwoofers, allows users to split the signal into a separate Left and Right channel, one from each sub output. This could be configured in the Speakers Setting Menu. 2) Allow the TV/Cable/Sat front speaker signals to also be passed to the TV via HDMI WITHOUT losing the front speaker signals to the stereo. This would allow users to adjust the appropriate speakers levels for the receiver's front and center speakers as well as the speakers on TV's eith high end speakers built into them. I have an LG plasma with Mark Levinson speakers that are very nice that I'd like to use in addition to the receiver's front and center signals, but I can use only one or the other instead of using all. As mentioned earlier, other than a little more descriptive help text for each Setting Menu option, which is already good, the user interface is very intuitive. Users who aren't familiar with stereo jargon may find the help text not as helpful and they will likely have to use Google for a better detailed explanation. Overall this is a slam dunk buy for under $300. It isn't as good as my dedicated stereo equipment, but that was over $15k. To put it into perspective, if the sound from my dedicated stereo is a 10, this receiver is a solid 6-6.5. It really is that good, and for under $300 it is a must have for anyone looking to get into a high quality Home Theater system without having to spend a lot of money.

  • Excellent receiver.

Great product for its price. This replaced a 5.1 Sony home theatre receiver I previously had. This Onkyo receiver is a 7.1 system with an exceptionally clear sound coming from each speaker. It has more features like internet connectivity and a Bluetooth function. I would recommend this receiver if anyone wants to upgrade his/her home theatre system.

  • Awsome Receiver for the price.

Onkyo TX-NR676: Easy to set up, good sound and great value. Like the WIFI, Bluetooth capabilities. Pre-assigned HDMI input and ARC HDMI out to 4K HDR TV works like a charm. Also like having extra RCA input connections especially for Phono in. Also like the powered USB 5V/1A port for charging my electronic device including the iPhone. Optical cable input also should be convenience for some TV that does not have ARC HDMI in. Eventhough this units does not show "Blackfire" logo on the back panel the "Blackfire Apps" on the iPhone does recognize the receiver. Firmware upgrade was also easily done via internet (don't think manufacture recommends this method) Work with my old Sony (SS-V130 8-ohms 100W) Surround Speakers set set up as 5.1 for now. Waiting for 2 ceiling speakers to arrive to enjoy Dolby Atmos. Don't know why Onkyo does not have a setting for an 8-Ohms speakers. Use setting as 6-Ohms seems to work fine and able to listen music and TV sound from volume level between 40-60 comfortably. Note: It is uncomfortably loud at maximum volume level. Wish the remote control is universal capable. All in all like this receiver hope it lasts as long as my old faithful Sony of 20+ years.

  • Grand Receiver for the Money

Grand receiver. Has enough power, sound channels and features to satisfy most audio geeks. Personally, I wish it upscaled to 4K like it's predecessor from component cables to the HDMI output, but this was easily solved by purchasing a relatively inexpensive component upscaler from Porrta for about 25 dollars. Pretty easy to use, overall. One other nitpick I have, and that's all that it is, I find the buttons on the remote kind of spongy, I prefer more tactile feedback, but again, this is merely a nitpick. Great receiver for the money!

  • Great price and sound quality.

Great product, well constructed, feature plentiful. Liked the on screen detailed instructions which made the set -up a no brainer. Acoustic room calibration is simple. Just plug in the supplied microphone and the receiver does the work for you. If you feel the need to fine tune the sound more to your liking, the built in on screen equalizer will allow to tweak your system.

  • Great Receiver

Onkyo continues to impress. Very impressed with the audio clarity after set up with supplied calibration microphone at this price point. From the ease of set up and performance to its physical appearance, this reciever delivers. If you are looking for a flexible receiver, I highly recommend this product.

  • Outstanding sound quality.

This receiver replaced my Harman Kardon AVR that I absolutely love but was older and in need of an upgrade. I'm a long time H/K user because of their sound quality but this Onkyo AVR blew me away with it's defined and rich sound. It has more than enough power to drive my home theater speakers and has an array of features that make it an excellent value. I am definitely an Onkyo convert.
