    9.2 channel receiver! Problems...
Update 3: I have the same video blackout problem using Netflix from my XBOX ONE S through the Denon as well. So Adding a star back. Powering off the receiver and turning it back on seemed to resolve it for a few hours. Also, handling of powered zone 2 is much more user friendly on the Onkyo. The Onkyo does the powering of zone 2 automatically while on the Denon you need to manually set the mode to 7.2 plus zone 2. The Onkyo does it automatically. I think the Onkyo sounded slightly better on 2.1 stereo playback, but I get more sound out of my surround channels during movies on the Denon. I might add separate amplifiers for my left and right channels anyway. Update 2: this one's going back. 3 strikes were too many for something that is supposed to make my life more enjoyable. Video blackouts were too much. I saw and heard of other people having the same problem with Onkyo receivers. Gonna spend a little more for the Denon AVR-X4400H. It's too bad this receiver sounds really good. Update: I experienced a Video blackout problem while watching Netflix from my XBox One S. Video blacks out for 1 second randomly, 5 seconds to 1 min 45 seconds in-between. It did this for the duration of Incredibles 2. Don't know if it's the receiver, but I was able to play the WALL-E Blueray without a problem. With this, the non-programable remote and the AccuEQ microphone dying, this hasn't been the best experience with a receiver. Customer service was good about the microphone problem. This receiver replaced my Onkyo TX-NR737 and feel that it is definitely an upgrade in sound quality and video features. It is a great value at current prices. The AccuEQ microphone died after 3 uses, giving the error: "check microphone" after the 1st set of tones plays twice. My old one lasted 4.5 years and then died 2 weeks ago. Onkyo support warranty service has been great so far. They are sending a replacement microphone at no charge. I am very excited to complete my theater room project with this at the heart of it. I pre-wired my room with "smurf tube" and 5 way binding post outlets for 9.2 channels. The only thing I can add now is a second subwoofer, which I intend to do within a year or two. I highly recommend HSU Research subwoofers. My HSU VTF-2 MK5 replaced my BIC Acoustec PL-200 and it is absolutely worth the extra money.

This is my 3rd Onkyo receiver that I’ve purchased over the last 20 years. Great products, great power, sound, and video. Easy setup. Recommend to everyone thinking of home theater receiver upgrades. Price was high but for the quality and connection ability it was the best choice. Bought this to replace my TX-NR515 only because that didn’t support my new Atmos setup.

Upgraded from an old theater in the box setup with a low end Yamaha. Really impressed after 10 months of use. Setup and menus are easy to use, the AccuEQ worked well and sets levels much better than I could through a manual setup. It's powering a 7.2 system with Klipsch reference speakers and a SVS sub and it really cranks. I find the sweet spot is around 70 on the volume, +-2 when watching movies. I purchased this during a Onkyo sale and feel I got a great deal on it.

Hooked this to my home theater speakers. Sounded good and easy to set up, except it would never connect to the internet. I tried everything and my 28 year old son tried everything. No go. Called Onkyo customer support and they ran through exactly what was in the owner’s manual. No go. Onkyo said it was a bad chipset. I doubted this and continued to try to connect. I finally got it to connect via an IPhone hotspot and completely taking my LAN out of the picture. I went back to my network, but could never get a connection.
There are no switched outlets on the back panel. I usually run a cooling fan on these units that create a lot of heat. It’s hard to do without a switched outlet.
The owner’s manual is nearly 200 pages and is not included, you have to print it from a pdf off the internet.
The unit seemed to be well made, but what good is it if it will not do what the manufacturer advertises.
This one went back and I will have to look into other units.
