This is my first experience with an SSD and I must say that I'm quite pleased so far. I wanted a second storage device for my ThinkPad T420 on which to run Linux and wanted to try an SSD, but didn't want it to be too expensive. After reading some reviews I decided to go with this one; it seemed good for its price. I also did some research beforehand on how Linux and SSDs interact. The distribution I selected was SparkyLinux 4.0, which is a Debian testing derivative. I mounted the SSD via the T420's UltraBay, using a third-party caddy. This was extremely easy and was done in about a minute. During installation, I put the /var and /tmp partitions on the laptop's internal HDD, since these directories tend to get written to frequently. After the initial install, I set the swappiness to 1 and enabled trim manually by editing /etc/fstab, adding the discard and noatime options. These steps were all taken in an effort to reduce wear on the SSD. To further reduce wear, I also installed profile-sync-daemon. I should mention that SparkyLinux does not appear to have hibernate functionality installed by default; I had to actually install the hibernate command before it would hibernate properly. Once everything was set up, it was off to the races. The computer boots up in less than 10 seconds and application launch times are considerably faster than with any HDD I've seen. I haven't conducted any benchmarks, but given the low price and the stance of other reviews, I can't imagine that it's winning any records. Still, it seems to be a great budget option and I'm very pleased with it thus far. It gets 5 stars because it's super cheap and is tangibly much faster than an HDD; any complaints have to be measured against its price. I am now considering getting another one for a different laptop and will update this review if I have any issues down the road.
UPDATE 1 (10-09-2015): I finally did some benchmarking and as it turns out, the drive only exhibits a sequential read of ~290 MB/sec, which isn't even close to the advertised 520. This is a bit disappointing, but I don't care too much as it's still plenty fast enough to meet my requirements. Although my requirements are not high, the lower-than-advertised sequential read is probably information that people will want to know, so I'm mentioning it. Right now, I'm not sure if the drive's a lemon or if something else is slowing it down. I've heard some claims that that the T420's UltraBay doesn't reach SATA III speeds, and it's also possible that the caddy I'm using is the bottleneck. A final possibility is that it's a driver issue in SparkyLinux. Since I need to do more research on this matter and I'm still satisfied with the drive, I'm not changing my rating yet. Cached reads, incidentally, are ~4500 MB/sec.
UPDATE 2 (10-09-2015): I decided to use a different software benchmark to test the drive's read performance and it reports that in fact, the sequential read performance is ~510 MB/sec. It's good to know that it was a software issue that produced the previous result. Of course, no drive ever actually hits its advertised performance, but this drive comes very close and I don't think anyone will feel cheated.
UPDATE 3 (10-10-2015): Ordered a second one for the aforementioned different laptop, a ThinkPad X131e, and dropped SparkyLinux on it as well. I used the same adjustments as before to reduce wear. Once again, the sequential read is ~510 MB/sec, so that's 2 for 2 good drives now. Whatever SanDisk is doing here, it seems to be working. The performance gains are significant for this slow computer. Boot time has been cut in half, programs start up quickly if not instantly, and hibernating went from agonizingly slow to completely tolerable. It's still slower than the T420 - obviously, the SSD can't fix its underpowered CPU - but it's not a laggy mess anymore and honestly, that's all I needed.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2016I bought two of these to use in a couple of older laptops and see what performance I could eke out of them. Neither laptop was cutting edge, so even though this doesn't top the list in terms of performance, it's a trusted brand and the price was right (it was cheaper than most other 240GB SSDs at the time of purchase).
One went into an old Turion x2 laptop running Windows Vista. Because I didn't have the recovery disc for Vista and I didn't really want to spend too much time with it, I just imaged the drive over using Macrium Reflect to the SSD. It made a huge difference in usability. The boot time is still depressingly slow (but far faster than it used to be -- was over 3 minutes before, now it's closer to 60-90 seconds from power button to usable Windows screen), but the responsiveness of the laptop has improved greatly. Also, being a 9 year old laptop with data that we didn't want to lose on it, I figured it was time for a backup anyway, so this way we have the old HDD sitting around as the data backup.
The other went into a 1st gen i7 laptop running Windows 7. Unlike the other laptops I'd installed 7mm thick SSDs into up until this, this one really required a 9.5mm drive. Thankfully, this SSD (like many others) came with a plastic spacer. With the spacer in place on the SSD, I was able to align the drive and slide it in to the appropriate SATA connectors. I installed Windows 7 fresh on this SSD, and then installed the Windows 10 upgrade on it, figuring that this laptop can now last a number of years. I still have the option of going back to 7 if I hate it, but Microsoft will let me use 10 again at a later date, because it's been upgraded before the year period was up. Man, does this laptop boot silly fast now. It's up in just a handful of seconds from power on, and it's ready to go. Apps just fly open now. I love it.
As I'm sure you know just by looking into purchasing an SSD, no matter what laptop you have, if it's got an HDD, going to an SSD will provide some benefit. There's very little downside to SSDs from a performance standpoint. It's mainly price per GB and the data densities available that keep SSDs from being the only thing you see out there. It's definitely headed in that direction, for better or for worse. For my part, I've been thrilled with my SSDs in my laptops, and these also don't disappoint. Very nice performance, from a solid brand, at a great price. I'm happy with that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo prodotto.
Windows 10 Pro gira abbastanza bene...
Alfio Z.Ottimo prodotto.

5.0 out of 5 stars Value for money, works with older SATA compliant motherboards also (SATA II)
Excellent product. Works even with my Gigabyte M61PME-S2P motherboard, which supports SATA II (Revision 2.x) with a speed of 3Gbps. There is no issue in compatibility, and it gives me a average read speed of 216 MBPS (as reported by HDTune Pro). See attached snapshot for read speed. Write Speed I can't report without formatting the drive first, so am skipping it.
Note I: The speed I'm reporting is for an older version of SATA II. In newer computers, it'd give much higher speeds as SATA III is 6Gbps.
NOTE II: Please register your product to avail three year warranty at Sandisk website (link: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/account/prodreg/alist/). Select Retail SSD->Sandisk SSD Plus -> Size of your SSD.Serial No. is required for registration. You can find this on the back of the SSD drive shown as S/N as shown in attached image.
Boot up time has slashed to just 30 seconds from the usual 3 minutes or more. After formatting this drive, you will be able to utilize 111 GB in total. This is because Sandisk uses 1000 instead of 1024 as the definition of a kilobyte and 1000 KB as a Megabyte and so on. Also, some partition space is unutilizable for other reasons.
One point to note about the product in question is that neither a SATA data cable nor 2.5 inch to hdd enclosure is provided. This will have to be purchased additionally if you don't have a 2.5" drive bay in your computer cabinet.
Hope this review helps others choose better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahora mi portátil arranca, carga aplicaciones y se apaga como un Mac.
The media could not be loaded.

The best thing you can do to speed up your computer is buy an SSD, in my opinion. I bought the £240gb I will try to keep this review as simple as possible.
Let me explain my use for this to give some rational behind my thoughts and review. I am a computer science teacher who was looking to get a bit more out of a 2 year old mid range i5 laptop with 8gb RAM. I have a 750gb HDD which I partitioned for a boot drive and storage. I am fortunate that my laptop has 2 hard drive bays so I did not buy this to replace my standard hard drive. This is an additional drive which holds my OS and applications, everything else is stored on the HDD. The reason I added this into my laptop was partly for a faster boot up but also when using Office and Photoshop I sometimes get impatient waiting for software to load.
The first thing to mention is that this speeded up my boot time significantly. My boot time has gone from about 2 minutes to 20 seconds. This is from the point of pressing the power button on to being ready to use. I did a fresh install of windows 10 on the SSD and had to do some configuration stuff to get it working and booting directly from the SSD, plenty of helpful stuff on youtube.
Office and Photoshop take a lot less time to load up. Microsoft word is up and open in a matter of seconds which although may seem a minor things when jumping from program to program for work it keeps things flowing nicely. Photoshop still takes a few seconds to loads but this is still much less than before. Obviously there are other components in the laptop to this software depends on but the SSD has definitely sped things up.
One thing I hadn't taken into consideration when using an SSD was the impact on my laptops cooling system. My laptop was fairly noisy with the fan whirring away on a regular basis and I jumped about running loads of programs. Since installing the SSD the fan only gets going when I am doing any gaming. This makes me feel a lot more confident that my laptop isn't going to overheat and cause damage to itself.
There might be some enhanced battery performance but I couldn't honestly say as I upgraded to windows 10 at the same time as the SSD so i wouldn't want to attribute the improvement to the SSD as it may be a combination.
So why buy this SSD?
Essentially everything I have said so far would be pretty much the case for any SSD. There are some differences in read and write speeds for SSDs but this is also dependant on your SATA standard in your computer. To put it simply not every computer will get maximum speeds out of an SSD so if one SSD say it will manage 400mb/s and another says 550 mb/s you may not actually see any difference as your computer might only be able to handle 300mb/s.
I was toying between this and the Samsung EVO 850 which was about an extra £10 but decided this would do the job just as well as my laptop wouldn't hit the top speeds anyway.
I would recommend this SSD or the samsung EVO 850. It is up to you if you want to save some money and go for a cheaper non branded version, which may do the job just as well. I would encourage you to think about the fact your computers software will be stored on this, hoe confident would you feel with a less established and trustworthy brand holding all your data.
Feel free to ask any questions, if you have found this useful please do click 'yes'.
