A nice upgrade for a fast and large primary drive!

A nice upgrade for a fast and large primary drive!
I build computers for myself and friends they are usually very high end machines or servers. I use SSD drives in the high end ones and I own about 12 different SSD drives. My monster machine that I use all the time had a 480 GIG drive in it and I wanted more space so I picked up a 960 GIG SSD by SanDisk. This drive does not come with any mounting hardware meaning screws, brackets for a 2.5 inch drive, SATA cable or a power cable but since I was replacing an existing SSD I had everything I needed. I used an external docking station using an USB cable and I downloaded the 480 GIG drive backup from my server and loaded it onto the new 960 GIG drive. I then swapped the drives and installed the new one in my slot for the primary drive. When I booted my computer it immediately recognized the new drive as the C Drive and it told me that I had to restart Windows 10 for the changes to take effect. You should note that Windows changed the drive letter to C. Unless you need the old drive you took out right away I always keep it as long as possible as a backup of my working operating system. If something should happen you now have a recovery disk to get back into operation and you may have to install a few updates but you don't lose everything including possibly the OEM license to your operating system. If you don't need the drive and have room in your tower computer (If that is where you installed this new one) I sometimes leave the old drive in place and make sure that the wires are run to it but not connected so it does not wear out. (Especially if it is a standard mechanical drive) Now you know where it is and if the primary drive fails then remove the PC computer's power and unplug the failed drive and plug in the archived one and you are back in business. So far I am happy with the new drive as it is as fast as my old SSD and I didn't lose any performance but I picked up an additional 480 GIG of storage space and a little more breathing room on the boot drive. I ran benchmarking speed tests on the drive and they were very good. I had write speeds of up to 464.823MB/s and read speeds of up to 530.242 MB/s. I hope this has been helpful to you and enjoy your new SSD Drive. I like this product and I give it 5 stars and I recommend it to you.

I have an Alienware 17 laptop with an Intel Core i7 chipset that was running RAID with two 750GB hard disk drives (HDD). I replaced them with a 1TB (960GB) SanDisk solid state drive (SSD) and the results were awesome. I put one of the 750GB HDD's in as extra storage even though running Windows 10 and all my Steam games from the SSD still left me tons of space. I'm impressed with the speed, and for the price ($244.99 at the time I purchased it) this was a great deal.

Whether you are building a new PC or updating an older model, this SSD will make a huge difference in boot times, data transfers, and loading games. I reinstalled Windows 10, downloaded all my drivers, synced over 30GB of data from Google Drive, and downloaded over a dozen Steam games in a matter of a few hours.

Easy switch, but keep in mind if you're also running RAID with two HDD's you should remove them both before installing Windows. Even after deleting RAID from the BIOS, I left one of the 750GB HDD's in and Windows, for some reason, felt the need to try and boot data from the half-written HDD. Take them both out and place only the SSD in, load your operating system (Windows, etc.), and THEN add whatever other storage you want later. The beauty of this product lies in both its inherent capabilities and its pricing. Buy the 960GB (1TB) SanDisk, and you won't need much else in the way of storage until your gaming library bulges at the seams.

I LOVE IT! This purchase and install alone made my MacBook 17" laptop computer a modern new computer. I never really knew how much a standard Hard Drive slowed down a computer. I was constantly waiting on my MacBook Pro 17" computer to get things done and it seemed to have such a bad delay on doing anything. Waiting was my constant companion with this computer to the point that I often thought about replacing it with a Windows 10 computer or purchasing a newer MacBook in hopes that it would be faster.

I chose to purchase this Sandisk Ultra because it was on sale at a huge discount for the size drive it was. I wondered if it would work on my 17" MacBook Pro but everything I read said it would. I did the install and performed a clone using Carbon Copy (paid edition) and then substituted the drive for the one in the MacBook Pro. I was very concerned that the switch wouldn't work or that something would be wrong but everything booted up and because of the exact Carbon Copy Clone my computer never knew there was a new Hard Drive installed. AS for speed .... W O W! Even though I had already been pre-warned by Apple and Sandisk that due to transfer speeds and that this drive's interface could be faster that I should notice some improvement. The improvement I noticed was that the computer seemed not only faster but extremely faster. I can honestly say that at times it appears that my computer is not only four times faster but even exponentially faster as some things.

On one application that I knew was slow, using my old Hard Drive, I compared it to the boot up and "ready time" using the new SSD drive. With the old 1 TB Hard Drive 7200 RPM my photography editing application was ready to edit the image brought up with it in 15 seconds. With the new SanDisk SSD Drive (the only change I made) the same application (remember I carbon coped/cloned it from drive to drive so it was the exact same application) loaded and was ready for editing and use in 3 seconds time. I went from 15 seconds to 3 seconds with just the change of the drive. That was fantastic and the same type results were found across the board.

I have a new MacBook computer and there is no way I'm ever selling my 17" MacBook pro which is ever bit as fast as any of the newer MacBooks and/or Windows 10 Machines with their Solid State Drives. The install was an easy job with little difficulty and I was able to have it completed within 25 minutes time. I HOPE that the stability and the endurance of this Solid State drive will be great as well and that it will hold up a long time but I can only report on what I know to this point and that is that I have a new computer and an extremely fast one, thanks to the sole change out of the Hard Drive from old style 7200 RPM model to Solid State SanDisk drive.

Works Great! Ordered it to replace standard Hard Drives in my Dell computer. There is a visible difference in speed and performance of my Win7 computer now. Would definitely recommend for those considering it for an upgrade. Go ahead and treat yourself for it is well worth it. Oh, don't forget, you will need to order a 2.5" to 3.5" "adapter tray" for proper mounting in the bay of your computer. Roughly another $4.00 - $6.00 expense for the one you choose. I chose the cheap $4.00 metal one by ExtremeMod.

      UPDATE on 27 Feb 2017:
I have taken the original hard drive I ordered 2 years ago and converted into a backup/data drive. I ordered two new ones and placed them in a new computer build using ASUS MAXIMUS IX FORMULA LGA1151 DDR4 DP HDMI M.2 Z270 ATX Motherboard
as my new system board. I've configured the drives into RAID 0 configuration, and boy is it lightening fast. Is putting two SSD's in RAID 0
configuration worth it? I'd say it is! My new build is running great! Have not benched the drives yet, but I will.

My system has 3 SSDs. Samsung 850 EVO 512GB (System), Sandisk Ultra II 960GB (this drive as my data drive), and Sandisk X300s SD7SB2Q 512GB (came with my desktop, using as my games drive). This is the only drive that consistently gives me problems and crashes. I've spent days trying different ports on the MB, putting it in a different system etc. S.M.A.R.T reports no issues and it always works fine after a hard reset but only for a randomly limited time before bombing out again.

Tech Info: The drive will show 100% utilization in task manager with NO transfer activity at all. System log shows errors during paging, and "Reset to drive" being issued. My system and gaming drives work fine, just not this drive during this behavior. A hard reset is required to bring the drive back into operation. If I try to simply reboot windows it will hang forever as it tries to cleanly access all disks.

I sent the drive back and bought another, only to experience the same behavior again BUT at a significantly less frequency (though still happening). Am I so unlucky to get two bad drives in a row? Can I really be alone in this? I am so frustrated and don't know what I can do at this point other than just replacing with another brand or model and maybe RMA this one.
